A new image of Ryan, from “Only God Forgives” has just been released.
In his re-team with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn, below one can see a new look at a battered Gosling, with seemingly only one eye intact. The image below, sent in by a reader, is presumably out of the American Film Market and after word that M83 was part of a clip shown, we’ve also got confirmed the exact song was Sister (Part 2).
We also recently got word that the film is set to be finished by December for a 2013 release, but a concrete date still has yet to be confirmed for the Bangkok-set thriller also starring Kristen Scott Thomas. [Source]
We was all looking forward to another Nicolas Winding Refn/Ryan Gosling project since it was announced Ryan has joined NWR’s “Logan’s Run“, but it was reported yesterday by Variety’s Justin Kroll that Ryan has dropped the project. No reason was given, but we think its because he’s schedule to a spring shoot for his directorial debut.
Rough news for those LOGAN’S RUN fans, I can confirm Ryan Gosling is no longer attached to the project
On the more positive side, it looks like we’ll finally know when his Thai boxing thriller “Only God Forgives” will be completed, as the director recently spoke with the French outlet leJDD. He confirmed he would give himself to this December to “fine-tune” the film. As we know, the Weinstein offshoot Radius-TWC plans to give the film, starring Gosling and Kristen Scott Thomas, a vague 2013 release including VOD and theatrical, so we’ll have to see when exactly that is, but maybe a Cannes debut is in store.
Only God Forgives will be released in 2013
I finally have added a few pictures of upcoming “Only God Forgives”, which was filmed in Bangkok, Thailand earlier this year. Here’s the synopsis:
Bangkok. Ten years ago Julian (Gosling) killed a cop and went on the run. Now he manages a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs operation. Respected in the criminal underworld, deep inside, he feels empty.
When Julian’s brother murders a prostitute the police call on retired cop Chang – the Angel of Vengeance. Chang allows the father to kill his daughter’s murderer, then ‘restores order’ by chopping off the man’s right hand.
Julian’s mother Jenna – the head of a powerful criminal organization – arrives in Bangkok to collect her son’s body. She dispatches Julian to find his killers and ‘raise hell’.
Increasingly obsessed with the Angel of Vengeance, Julian challenges him to a boxing match, hoping that by defeating him he might find spiritual release.. but Chang triumphs. A furious Jenna plots revenge and the stage is set for a bloody journey through betrayal and vengeance towards a final confrontation and the possibility of redemption.

Ryan Gosling has begun intense training to prepare for his role in Only God Forgives.
The Drive star has been working at the Muay Thai Academy of America in North Hollywood in the months leading up to shooting the boxing film, receiving instruction directly from owner Kiu Puk.
“Ryan’s disciplined and enthusiastic, and above all, he loves his training,” Puk told Life & Style.
“He trains for around two hours at a time – it’s pretty nonstop. Some of the big stars come in here for two hours and try to conduct business on their cellphone while they’re here. But not Ryan. He’s polite, always listens to what I’m saying and follows all instructions.”
Puk went on to say that he has also given Gosling nutritional advice, adding: “I’ve recommended that he stick to a traditional Thai diet of fish, green vegetables and rice. I can tell he’s sticking to it.”
Gosling recently insisted that he didn’t feel snubbed by the Academy Awards after Drive was left off the list of nominees.
