Back in January, we introduced you to Dead Man’s Bones, the goth-folk collaboration between actors Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields. Since then, only two of their charming, creepy songs have been made public, via a pair of self-created videos: “Name in Stone” and “In the Room Where You Sleep”. Finally, this fall, everyone will get to hear more. On October 6, Anti- will release Dead Man’s Bones’ self-titled debut album. (It was previously titled Never Let a Lack of Talent Get You Down.)

In our interview with Gosling and Shields, the pair discussed the creation of the album, which was recorded with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, a group of Los Angeles-area kids ranging in age from five to 17. Gosling described the motivation behind the album’s aesthetic: “You know when you’re a kid and you get crayons and papers and just draw whatever you want and it’s just a bunch of messy lines, but to you it makes sense, and then they put it on the fridge? From that point on, you’re always trying to get back on the fridge, you start drawing things that look like something, like, the more it looks like a horse, the more chance you have of getting it on the fridge. We wanted to get back to that place before we were trying to make the fridge. We wanted to work with people who hadn’t been affected in that way yet.”
